Informative writing is easy with this monster writing activity and craft! Students will love this fun Valentine’s Day writing prompt, and it makes a great bulletin board for your hallway. Pair it with the book Love Monster by Rachel Bright, and students are sure to be engaged.

This lesson can be taught in one day or stretched out throughout five days. Students generate ideas for their fictitious love monster, then will turn those ideas into a full writing project. This project can be taught throughout a week, or squeezed into one morning.

There are three versions of this craft:

  • Primary Lined (with a sentence stem “My love monster is…”)

  • Intermediate Version (with planning, drafting, editing and publishing pages)

  • Stand Alone Craft (no writing included)
