Abstract and figurative language are always harder for students in language therapy or ESL or ELL classes. My students were always confused by the typical idiom lessons that included literal pictures of the idiom’s meaning. These were especially hard for my concrete learners and those students on the Autism Spectrum.This themed packet is DIFFERENT because it gives students a logical way to group idioms ( by seasonal theme) while still scaffolding them through the learning process.
Themes addressed in the March Packet include : March Comes in Like a Lion, Reading, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and Spring.
Each theme includes 24 cards that can be laminated and cut out and used to play varied games such as memory or as a matching game. The cards can also be used while playing any therapist chosen game.
Two worksheets (and answer keys) are included that can be used as a follow up activity or as a stand alone teaching tool with your older students. I have also found it useful to use one worksheet as a pretest and one as a post test. This is a great way to easily collect your data.Answer keys are included.
