Item description

A clear and concise 37-slide PPT product (with student notes) designed to introduce upper middle school and high school anatomy students to medical terminology and directional terminology. Topics include: what is medical terminology, word roots, prefixes, suffixes, defining medical terms, directional terminology, anatomical position, body planes, body cavities, abdominal quadrants, abdominal regions, and common directional terms.

How I Use This Product:

  • I created this PPT to introduce anatomy students to common medical word roots, prefixes, and suffixes that make up most medical terms.
  • Instead of having students memorize 100s of medical terms, my goal is to have them develop a firm grasp of the building blocks of medical language so that they can define even the most complicated medical terms by breaking them down into their component parts.
  • I typically give this presentation at the start of a unit of study and use the review quizzes (and available worksheets) as formative assessments a few days later to evaluate understanding.
  • As new medical terms come up during subsequent lessons, students are first asked to define them using their knowledge of medical terminology.
  • In my experience, mastering medical terminology gives students a feeling of confidence that helps with all other anatomy lessons that follow!
