Item description

Need a comprehensive unit of Montessori cursive CVC picture cards your kids won’t blow through before mastery? These Montessori Pink Series movable alphabet CVC picture cards and phoneme segmentation word lists to help kids learn confidently. Includes a printable Montessori cursive movable alphabet perfect for use at home or in large group lessons!

This set of Montessori CVC cards works like this:

– Kids practice spelling out the word that matches the picture on each card

– Use a standard sized wooden Montessori movable alphabet letters or the printable version included with the cards

– Color-coded frames show kids how many letters to use and reinforce the CVC letter pattern

– Once students work through the picture cards, they move on to the dictation lists, where they practice words dictated aloud onto cards without pictures

– Kids can check themselves with the control cards

The CVC words are organized in two ways: by beginning sound and by ending sound.  All together there are 17 lists of words.  By organizing by two difficulties, kids can practice more with the cards to reach mastery without becoming bored.

Each list focuses on either a specific letter or letters as a beginning sound or an ending sound (ex:  b- has a list, as does -b). There are 12 picture cards and picture control cards for each list.

Each list also has between 3 – 10 teacher’s dictation lists that focus on a further breakdown of the ‘parent’ list.  (ex:  b- dictation lists are ba-, be-, bi-, bo-, and bu-; -b dictation lists are -ab, -ib, -ob, -ub).

Ideas for Use

After a child masters their letter sounds, working with CVC words is the next task! This is how this material is used in our classrooms:

Beginning with the first list, the child spells out 3, 4, 6, or all 12 of the picture cards using movable alphabet letters.  How many words at a time depends on the ability and stamina of the child.

The picture card lists are designed to be customizable in their implementation! It would be simple to pull a sampling of cards from each list for doing spelling evaluations, for example.

After all the picture cards of a list have been spelled, the teacher can dictate words from one of the supporting dictation lists.  The child spells out the words onto empty frame cards then can check the work against the control cards.  Once a dictation list has been mastered, move to the next list in that series (ba- => be-, etc.)

List 1 – Beginning sounds:  b-

List 2 – Beginning sounds:  c-

List 3 – Beginning sounds:  d-, f-, and g-

List 4 – Beginning sounds:  h- and j-

List 5 – Beginning sounds:  k-, l-, and m-

List 6 – Beginning sounds:  n- and p-

List 7 – Beginning sounds:  r-

List 8 – Beginning sounds:  s- and t-

List 9 – Beginning sounds:   v-, w-, y-, and z-

List 10 – Ending sounds:  -b

List 11 – Ending sounds:  -d

List 12 – Ending sounds:  -g

List 13 – Ending sounds:  -m

List 14 – Ending sounds:  -n

List 15 – Ending sounds:  -p

List 16 – Ending sounds:  -t

List 17 – Ending sounds:  -k, -l, -s, and -x

Kids love spelling onto these attractive cards and checking their own work! Teachers love them because they can adapt the length of the exercises to their students’ individual needs! Students can spell out 3, 4, 6, or all 12 of the picture cards in a list… It all depends on what that student needs. 🙂
