Item description

Novel studies engage, motivate, and instantly hook students! Offer choice of text if possible, but certainly be able to differentiate the questions for each of your students with this novel study. There are more after-reading questions and activities than students could ever complete – so pick and choose what is most appropriate for each student or guided reading group. Your students will have age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate response to text activities, while administrators will be impressed with your ability to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners! Plus, once you have novel studies or literature circles or book talk groups set, they will last you quite a while – front load the work and then have the time to enjoy reading and working with your students!

What’s Included?

With 57 pages of student activities, you have everything you need to turn this novel into a mini unit of study for your students, while differentiating for individual student needs.

For each chapter in My Name is Maria Isabel, there is one page for independent responses or to include in a book club, guided reading group, or literacy circle. This one-pager includes a frayer model-type vocabulary practice and one short response question. We have the RATTS strategy for responding to a short response question checklist added at the bottom of the page, along with a cheat sheet of effective and useful evidence statements, or sentence stems, for answering the questions in writing.

***I also included pages without the RATTS checklist for classrooms that do not use that model.

There are 3 pages of multiple choice questions included to align with the text. These are based on released state assessment questions to support further test prep work.
