In my classroom…

  • I like to start with the needs and wants posters. We go over each of the definitions and then I ask students to give more examples of needs and wants.
  • As a class, we then complete the needs and wants sort for the pocket chart. I divide up the colored cards amongst students and one by one they put them under the correct label. They also give a short explanation for why that object is a need or a want. You could also add tape to the back of the cards and have students tape them to the correct spot on the white board.
  • After, I assign one of the worksheets and then we go over the answers. You could also assign the worksheet(s) for homework.
  • Finally, the students take the short assessment, so I can see what they have learned.
