Item description

Do you need your students to have a better understanding of why we use the Zero Product Property? This investigation leads students through discovering the relationship between the factored form and the graph (including x-intercepts). They do this for lead coefficients that are equal to and greater than 1. Students are then asked to solve equations where the linear factors are set equal to zero and solved algebraically. Finally, they are told about the Zero Product Property and given practice problems to solidify the concept.

Resource includes:

  • 4 student pages

  • 4 answer key pages

  • 1 teacher notes page

Before completing this activity, students will need to know how to factor quadratic equations with a lead coefficient of 1 or greater and solve one and two step equations.
