Minoru Yamasaki – Architecture Research Project
This architectural research project is inspired by the picture book by Katie Yamasaki entitled, “Shapes, Lines, and Light.” The author is the granddaughter of Minoru Yamasaki, the famous architect known for designing the World Trade Center which was tragically lost on 9/11. Unfortunately, that is what most people think of when they think of him. However, he was so much more. Your student will learn about his difficult life growing up during the war, racism, and the Great Depression. They will learn about his determination and how he overcame great odds. There is an architecture research project where the students will get to research some of his work. There are many subjects included in this unit that is geared for 7th-9th grade. Although both younger and older students will enjoy learning about this great man, along with parents and teachers.
Engage your students in learning with this project. It is a great way to use picture books with older students.
