Item description

This summer reading passage resource includes six passages and questions in both a printable and digital (via Google Slides) format. They’re great for upper elementary students, especially fourth and fifth graders. Some passages will be too difficult for new third graders. Each passage includes five to six comprehension questions following the reading passage. This resource also includes a separate file with full page passages without comprehension questions for students who need larger text or teachers who want to write their own questions.

There are four non-fiction and two fiction reading passages with the following titles:

  • Mosquitoes (NF)
  • The History of Popsicles (NF)
  • Berry Season (NF)
  • Becoming Frogs (NF)
  • A Camping Adventure (F)
  • A Day at the Lake (F)

Your download will a zip file that includes three files:

  1. The printable pages which have the passage and questions on the same page and are an easy no-prep assignment to staple into a homework packet, give for a quick assignment, or use in a reading group.
  2. The digital resource which is a PDF with the link to the Google slides and basic instructions on how to access the resource and assign to students in Google classroom. It includes six Google slides with the reading passages, six slides with comprehension questions, and a separate Google slide resource with the six answer keys. Your students should be familiar with Google classroom and understand how to “turn in” and assignment to you before using this resource. *Slide size is 4×3.
  3. Printable full pages of the reading passages without comprehension questions.

At least one type of each of these types of comprehension questions is used in the resource:

  • Using context clues
  • Giving evidence from the text
  • Author’s purpose
  • Recognizing a simile
  • Fact vs. option
  • Inferring meaning of unknown words or phrases
  • Problem and solution
  • Point of view
  • Creating a title for the passage
  • Recognizing the lesson in the story

A combination of multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answer questions are included.
