Item description

This is a highly engaging creative writing project to be paired with teaching Lois Lowry’s The Giver. For this project, students create a digital or hand made book that documents their understanding of human emotions as well as showcases a creative narrative that they write about one of their most impactful memories. Students include a reflective journal in their memory book that allows them the opportunity to reflect on the importance and impact of challenging life experiences. This is a step-by-step project that is easy to implement into any English classroom. Each component of the project is clearly detailed, so that students feel supported as they work on the project. Students start on a digital brainstorming doc. to gather their ideas.

Afterwards, they choose the medium that they would like to use to turn their brainstorm into one of the following: a handmade book, a poster, or a digital book. There is a Google Slideshow template included for students who wish to create a digital book. This resource is provided for students who need more support and structure.  This project will take your students about two weeks to complete.

My students love this project because there is a lot of choice in how they want to showcase their project. Some students love that they get to draw if they choose the paper version. They also enjoy reflecting on the value of their life experiences.

All items were created on Google docs. and Google Slides and are compatible with Google Classroom.
