Thinking before responding is an important skill to practice and master when dealing with people in all kinds of social situations. Too commonly, students (including adults) are too quick to respond or react to situations before thinking about the situation first or the other person’s perspective. When students speak and respond before considering different aspects of the situation as well as other people’s perspectives and feelings, then they will not be able to respond appropriately, which can ultimately lead to more challenging consequences. Thinking before speaking can improve students’ relationships with other people, enable them to express themselves in a more effective way, and help them find solutions to problems and resolve issues.

✅ These two worksheets require students to read a scenario (a total of two of them) and:

⭐ List what they should consider before responding. (Consider the other person’s perspective in the situation)

⭐ List appropriate things they can SAY in response (after thoughtful consideration of the situation).

⭐ List appropriate things they can DO in response (after thoughtful consideration of the situation).

✅ Detailed ANSWER KEYS are included for EACH of these worksheets to help you facilitate discussion!

✅ Also included are 2 Bulletin Board Task Display pages (to choose from) to showcase student work on bulletin boards immediately upon completion! A complete time-saver!
