Item description

Thanks for checking out this product! This PDF download includes Set 1 of my Preparing for State Tests Pack (Valentine Edition) for grades 4 and 5.

This Valentine’s Day-themed set includes 10 image-inspired, engaging LITERARY / FICTION TEXTS (Lexile levels 800-950) with 7-question sets of comprehension questions to give students practice with the following question types:

  • THEME,
  • INFERENTIAL,
  • SEQUENCING,
  • TEXT STRUCTURE,
  • CRITICAL ANALYSIS,
  • CENTRAL IDEA, and
  • VOCABULARY.

The Table of Contents page includes the question types for each passage, and by clicking the image for the passage, you will be able to jump directly to the passage and question set for the image. So, for example, if your students, like mine, need some extra practice with theme-related questions, you can jump to passages that include questions about the story’s theme.

These passages and question sets can not only offer you some test-prep practice for upcoming state tests, but they would be great for LITERARY READING centers, but the images would be so much fun in LITERARY WRITING centers to prompt some creative writing.

If you’re in the market for other Valentine’s Day related products, check out my Rumble! product line items. I have 2 whimsical, exciting sets that pit two magical, mythical characters against each other: Valentine Cupid vs. St. Patrick Leprechaun and Valentine Cupid vs. Easter Bunny. Each set includes informational text paired passages, before- and after-reading anticipation guides, text-dependent comprehension questions, and 3 text-based writing prompts (one explanatory/informative, one opinion, and one narrative).

Be sure to FOLLOW ME to be notified when I post new sets in this product line, and please contact me to alert me of typos (gasp!), request products, or to provide feedback.

Happy teaching, Tribe!
