Item description

Phonics worksheets that help students to practise identifying the spelling of vowel digraphs. Each worksheet has two vowel digraphs that have the same sound (in Australian English) but different spelling. Students need to identify the long vowel digraph, and search for it in the corresponding wordsearch.

Download the or-aw wordsearches for free HERE to give it a try first!

There are ten different vowel pairs, and each one has an easy and a hard version (20 wordsearches in total). Easy versions have ten words to find (five for each vowel spelling) and hard versions have 20 words (the same ten words as the easy ones, plus ten more). Some of the harder words have more complex spelling overall and the vocabulary is more advanced, so they would be better suited to slightly older students.

Colour and black and white versions and answer keys are included.

Includes hard and easy versions of:

ee-ea

ai-ay

or-aw (these are also available separately as a free download HERE)

oi-oy

oa-ow

ow-ou

oo-ue

er-ir

ir-ur

ur-er

PLEASE NOTE: I have used the same word lists for each vowel spelling to avoid using obscure vocabulary. This means that students doing the same difficulty level of the er/ir/ur wordsearches will be searching for the same words twice if they do all three, but contrasting against a different set (vowel spelling) with each wordsearch.

Some of the vowels used may not have the same sounds outside of Australia, so may not work for you. I am happy to create other versions if needed, just let me know which vowels you need.
