Item description

This includes two lessons for section one 1934 (pages 55-58) of Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See. Students complete a close reading of two scenes from the novel. One focuses on Marie-Laure’s pursuit and joy of learning from her Braille books. The second passage  focuses on the scene where Werner is visited at the Orphanage by the vice minister and his wife. Werner is faced with the harsh reality of being told that his dreams are not achievable and that he will never amount to anything more than a coal miner. In both assignments, students analyze the passages to determine the literary devices present (similes, metaphors, symbolism, imagery, allusion, etc.) and also determine their intended effect.

All documents were made on Google Docs. and are compatible with Google Classroom. This assignment was intended to be completed digitally, but you can print this out as a packet and have students complete the questions on a separate sheet of paper if this better suits your classroom needs.

Included with this purchase:

  • Google Doc. Assignment with close reading passages, vocabulary practices, analysis questions and grading rubric
  • Answer Key
