These phoneme segmenting and blending cards are a very effective way to help students learn to read words with r-controlled vowels while focusing on each sound in a word. This builds phonemic awareness and decoding skills.
This set includes 81 picture cards with elkonin boxes. Each card includes a picture of the words, plus a tracking dot and box for each phoneme.
Great for “say, tap blend, read” word work activities in small group or one-on-one.
These are mostly 3-phoneme words like barn and third, but there are also some 2- and 4-phoneme words included as well (such as arm or slurp). But all words contain an R-controlled vowel.
There is also a set of phoneme grapheme mapping prompt cards that help students connect finger tapping to the sounds in a word. Activities like this build strong phonological awareness, and improve decoding and spelling skills. However, you can simply use the digraph cards to practice blending if you prefer.
