Design Your Own Video Game Using A Picture Book as Inspiration, ELA, Art

Do your students love video gaming more than doing schoolwork?

If your answer is YES, then this study is for you!

Help them discover that Video Game Designers are actually master storytellers, and that reading is KEY to becoming a master storyteller.

This study has enough projects to occupy your students for at least two weeks during a 45-minute class period.

Your student will start by asking questions, then they will learn about the importance of storytelling, pick out a picture book & complete a book report.

Then they will pick their genre, and their platform, and begin exploring their video game idea with Creative Writing.

They will design their own controller, learn about the importance of marketing their product, present their ideas to the class and make an animated flip book.

There is a mini-lesson where they can repeat the process with a cave painting. This can also be used with struggling readers.

Finish off the week by reading about Shigeru Myamoto or other video game designer, with a classroom read-aloud to inspire students to be more

creative.

All worksheets come in color and black & white versions for ease of printing.
