Item description

This US History reading and assessment activity helps address several Common Core ELA Standards that are listed below this introduction and is suitable for Grades 5-8. Students read an informative 1000-word biographical text on John Quincy Adams, who served in more high government offices than any president in US history. As the minister to three European countries, the US Secretary of State, a US president (1821-1825), and finally as a US Congressmen for 18 years, Adams devoted himself to independent and honest public service. This is his life story, from his childhood travels and adventures as the son of John Adams, second President, to his final days in Congress as a fierce abolitionist.

After the reading are twenty-four fill-in-the-blank, multiple-choice, and short-answer questions that require application of Common Core Standards to a thorough close reading of the biography. There is also a crossword puzzle for your early finishers or to use as another form of assessment included with this resource. Answers are provided for all questions.
