This activity practices letter recognition (both lower case and upper case) and also reading of short ‘o’ CVC words. Great for morning work and fast finishers. Easy to leave for a substitute teacher. Laminate and use again and again in your literacy center.

The first set of activities do not require any writing. Once the student has crossed out all the matching letters, they read the remaining letters and circle the picture.

1. Match lower case letters and circle the picture x 3. (box, cop, dog)

2. Match upper case letters and circle the picture x 3. (fox, rod, jog)

3. Match lower case to upper case letters and circle the picture x 3. (log, mop, pot)

The second set of activities require the students to copy out the letters into a grid at the bottom of the page in order to spell out the mystery word.

1. Match lower case letters and write the word x 3. (top, hot, fog)

2. Match upper case letters and write the word x 3. (hop, got, lot)

3. Match lower case to upper case letters and write the word x 3. (hog, god, not)

A completed activity sheet is provided so that you can show the students what they should do.

Color images are used which also copy well in grayscale.
