Item description

This “no prep” printable reading assessment is part of my American Presidents series. It requires students to close read an informative 1100-word biographical text on under-appreciated yet influential 20th century American president, Lyndon Baines Johnson. The article presents his life story, beginning with his Texas upbringing and early travels/work, his time in the US House of Representatives, US Senate, and the Vice Presidency, and ending with the achievements and disappointment of his term of office, which concluded when he chose not to seek re-election in the 1968 presidential race. There are 33 questions, including both vocabulary and comprehension, that require a thorough close reading of the biography. An additional crossword puzzle to use with early finishers or as an alternative form of assessment is also included with this resource. This resource can be used in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, distance learning, direct instruction in class, independent practice, absence work, homework, test prep, assessment, centers, etc).
