Are your students excited about Valentines? Keep the learning going with this week long STEM / STEAM center unit. This unit includes full lesson plans and student task cards with visual supports. It is designed to be used as a week long, centers-based exploration unit, but can easily be used as whole class lessons. 

Monday: Build schema, read a book about Valentines, and do a special candy experiment.

Tuesday-Thursday: Students will visit a series of centers, investigating Valentines by sending air mail, weaving hearts, graphing hearts, building hearts out of pattern blocks, and more. Directions and suggestions are included for each station. (Data sheets are included with each center.)

Friday: Students will complete the Ghost Hearts experiment and create a heart mobile. 

Most STEAM challenges require supplies most teachers have on hand already. You will need a few boxes of conversation hearts. I usually get these through family donations or at dollar stores.


Centers/activities can also be spread out throughout the week if needed, used for fast finishers, or as part of your Valentine’s celebrations.
