Are you looking for no-prep creative writing center activities and prompts for your upper elementary classroom? This resource includes three no-prep activities that can be used in a literacy center, as sub plans, or as an easy time filler with extra minutes in class.

Activity #1: Creative Story Writing

Cut along the lines and fold each slip of paper. Put papers into three separate bowls (Characters, Settings, Problems) and select one at random from each bowl. Have all students write a short story using the selected character, setting, and problem. Because there are so many character-setting-problem combinations, this activity can be used over and over again, and your students will never be bored!

Many of these prompts are ones my own students have already completed and enjoyed. They love how unpredictable and random the prompt is each time and would frequently ask me when we would do this activity in class again.

Activity #2: Roll a Story

Two roll-a-story activities are included with this resource. Just print and go!


Activity #3: Picture Prompts

Three different picture prompts for students to write about. A digital version is included!
