This informational passage details the history of ketchup, beginning in ancient Rome with the fishy sauce known as liquamen, detailing the varieties of ke-tsiap and kechap eaten in Asia, and finishing with ketchup’s arrival in America and today’s popular Heinz 57 ketchup.

This informational text is teacher and student-friendly and was written for use in Grades 4-6. It can be implemented in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, distance and independent learning, absence work, homework, test prep, assessment, centers, etc).
